On my first visit to Iceland I had the amazing opportunity to enjoy a flight in an ultra light airplane above the still erupting Eyjafjalljökull. It was an unforgettable experience, but also the rest of the trip was so amazing, that I almost immediately afterwards started to plan my next visit. Here is why.
1. You can easily explore it on your own
Just rent a car, of course a 4WD and drive! There are amazing road trips in Iceland you can explore on your own, the traffic is light, the view is breathtaking, so what are you waiting for?
2. Amazing nature
Did I already mention the amazing nature? You will sometimes feel like landed on the moon, sometimes just overwhelmed by the green or the white colour of the surroundings but one thing is sure: you will never get bored of it.
Check out the Iceland circle!
3. There is great nordic food
You’ve probably already heard about the fantastic success of the new nordic diet. The world’s most influential restaurant, Noma is also part of it, leading the San Pellegrino list of the world’s best 50 restaurants for several years was not really a surprise: the creativity, the local products, the freshness of the dishes and most importantly the philosophy behind the whole concept is just perfect. No wonder, that even great chefs outside of the nordic region started to work based on the same principles. And it’s not just Copenhagen, but Iceland is also full with great restaurants, and even on the world’s best cooking competition, at the Bocuse d’Or competitor from Iceland is among the bests.
You can find very modern nordic cuisine in Iceland, but also just traditional nordic cooking, with regional ingredients, amazing fish and sometimes exotic animals like the puffin…

4. You can even taste whale, but don’t tell it to anybody…
5. The Blue Lagoon
There is a fantastic geothermic spa very close to the airport, so it is a perfect place to indulge right after arriving and right before leaving! Take your time, and try to apply the renowned silica mud mask, your skin will feel much softer after washing it off, and it’s also perfect to take some selfies with your jokes face!
Space is limited, so it’s a good idea to book your tickets in advance: www.bluelagoon.com
6. The Aurora Borealis
There is a huge chance to see the famous Northern Lights in Iceland, so you should check out the forecasts and stay awake on some nights, it is a once in a life time experience! The fully dark nights of September-April are the best for this.
7. The Great Geyser, the pate of all geysers of the world
This magnificent geyser keeps its promises, Northern Lights are unpredictable, but the geyser will erupt all the time.
